What is home physiotherapy?
Home physiotherapy is physiotherapy assessment and treatment provided in your own home by a registered physiotherapist, instead of at a clinic. Your physiotherapist brings the needed equipment and works with you in the space where you move every day.
Who can benefit from physiotherapy at home?
Adults and seniors who find travelling to a clinic difficult, people recovering after surgery or a hospital stay, people with balance or walking difficulties, and anyone who simply prefers care at home.
Do I need a doctor's referral?
In Ontario you can usually see a physiotherapist without a referral. Some private insurance plans do ask for one, so it is worth checking with your insurer. If you are unsure, contact us and we can talk it through.
What happens during the first appointment?
Your physiotherapist listens to your history and goals, checks movement, strength, balance and walking, looks at how you manage in your home, and then discusses an individualized treatment plan with you.
What should I wear?
Comfortable, loose clothing you can move in, and supportive shoes if you have them. Please keep any walker, cane, or brace you normally use nearby.
Can a family member or caregiver be present?
Yes. Family members and caregivers are welcome, and they can learn exercises, safe transfer techniques, and mobility strategies to use between visits.
Can physiotherapy help with walking and balance?
Physiotherapy often includes balance training, strengthening, and gait training. Your physiotherapist will assess your situation and explain what may be helpful for you. Results vary from person to person.
Do you provide exercises to do between visits?
Yes. Most people receive a simple written home exercise program suited to their ability, goals, and home setup.
Which Toronto neighbourhoods do you visit?
Home visits are available in Downtown Toronto and selected surrounding neighbourhoods. If you are outside these areas, please contact us to ask about availability.
How do I request an appointment?
Use the Request Home Visit form on this website, send an email, or call us. We will contact you to discuss availability and next steps.
